We recently went on this tour as a family with our tween and teen aged kids. And the Behind the Seeds tour ended up being one of our favorite hidden gems to book at EPCOT! We had a great time learning more about the greenhouse operations at EPCOT.
This is a great tour to learn more about what is happening behind the scenes at Disney World. Our kids found it fascinating, and we all came away from the tour having learned something new!
What Is the Behind the Seeds Tour?
The Behind the Seeds Tour is a one-hour guided tour. On the tour you’ll get an inside look at the innovative agricultural practices used at Walt Disney World.
It’s located inside The Land Pavilion at EPCOT (right near Soarin’ and Living with the Land).
During the tour, you’ll:
- Explore four greenhouses and a fish farm.
- Learn about Disney’s sustainable growing methods.
- Get up close to the unique plants and crops featured in Living with the Land.
This tour blends Disney magic with real world science, making it both entertaining and educational.
Important Information About the Behind the Seeds Tour
Located in The Land Pavilion, this tour takes you through four greenhouses, backstage laboratories, and a fish farm, providing insights into sustainable farming techniques.
The tour is available daily. Tour sessions typically run at 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:30 PM, and 4:30 PM.
Currently the tour cost is $39 to $49 per person. And there are discounts available for Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club members, and Disney Visa Cardholders. Also you’ll want to note that theme park admission is required but not included in the tour price.
Best Ages for the Behind the Seeds Tour
While the Behind the Seeds Tour is open to ages 3 and up, we found it’s best suited for older elementary kids, tweens, and teens. The one hour format includes walking and listening to your guide share detailed information. This format is great for curious kids who enjoy science or nature. And this is a great way to building in some STEM learning to your Disney trip.
For younger kids, the pace and scientific explanations may be a little advanced, but the visuals, like the giant fruits and vegetables or the fish farm, still capture their attention!
Just make sure your younger ones are good at following instructions. As they will be expected to stay on the path between marked lines on the floor.
Tips for Going On the Behind the Seeds Tour
Since there are so many times available during the day, the regular Behind the Seeds tour is typically available during most times of year. I would still recommend booking your tour well in advance, so you make sure to get your preferred tour time and day.
Also, here are some helpful tips to make sure that your tour goes smoothly!
- Arrive Early: The tour begins inside The Land Pavilion, so plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in.
- Wear Comfortable Shoes: You’ll be on your feet for about an hour, walking through the greenhouse areas.
- Pair It with a Ride on Living with the Land: After your tour, take a ride on Living with the Land to appreciate how it all comes together!
There is also a special holiday version of the tour called Behind the Seeds: Glimmering Greenhouses, and this version of the tour sells out quickly!
Behind the Seeds: Glimmering Greenhouses Holiday Tour Option
During the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays, Behind the Seeds: Glimmering Greenhouses offers a magical nighttime version of the traditional tour. This is a perfect option for families looking for something extra holiday magic.Â
From November 28 through December 30, 2025, guests can sign up for guided walking tours at 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, and 8:00 PM inside The Land Pavilion. These sell out quickly, so make sure you book right when your booking window opens! If you’re unable to get a tour time, the Glimmering Greenhouses version of the Living with the Land ride is still very much worth going on as well!
While the greenhouses are alive with plants all day, in the evenings they are transformed. You’ll walk through hydroponic greenhouses decked out with festive light displays, holiday decor, and learn how Disney’s sustainable growing methods support the flavors and crops tied to holiday traditions.
The cost is $59 per person (plus tax), which reflects the extra seasonal magic and decor. This is a neat add on to your holiday trip and I love visiting the Glimmering Greenhouses during the holidays!
Discounts are also typically available for this version of the tour. And these discounts are for Walt Disney World Annual Passholders, Disney Visa Card Holders, and DVC members. Note there is a separate booking page on the website that is specific to Glimmering Greenhouses tour times!
A Fun Extension of Learning at EPCOT
If your family enjoys making your Disney trip educational, this tour is the perfect hands-on addition to EPCOT’s learning experiences. It connects beautifully with the park’s overall theme of innovation, sustainability, and discovery.
Our kids especially loved seeing how some of the food from the restaurants is grown right there in the greenhouses. It gave them a whole new appreciation for Disney’s attention to detail!
