Fandom Inspired Outfits Using Regular Clothing
Last summer, we were able to have the special experience of going on the Galactic Starcruiser, a unique two-day Star Wars experience that was just outside of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Gray tunic / Leggings / Navy Cardigan Vest / Belt
This immersive experience was great fun, and a big part of the fun was our whole family coming up with their own Star Wars persona to be while they were on the ship.
We each created our own characters and then put together outfits made of regular clothing pieces (primarily from Amazon) that had a Star Wars-esque feel to them. I thought our outfits turned out great, and they really helped the immersion in the experience so that we felt like we were right there in the middle of the story.

My character was from Naboo, and I especially loved dressing up for the evening dinners. So while the longer dress wouldn’t work for a day at the theme parks, these sorts of ideas may be a fun way to accessorize for a dinner at a Star Wars event or event to Disneybound in regular life, with a nod to your favorite fandom.

Blue Dress / Clutch / Collar Necklace
Tunic / Cardigan Vest / Leggings / Belt
The great thing about using regular clothing pieces to put together an inspired outfit, is you can use them once you’re back to real life in outfits and they will always bring a fond memory of a great time!

Here are some more character inspired outfit ideas for you!
Mandalorian: Take inspiration from the Mandalorian with a handkerchief skirt, black tank top, and armored chest plate accessories.
Grogu: This pint size character has a BIG following! Also called Baby Yoda (but don’t let Disney hear you say that!) Grogu has a playfulness about him and curiosity about the world. Everything from a light green shirt and tan leggings to a light green dress would work for this inspired outfit!
Ahsoka Tano: There are lots of ways to channel Ahsoka in your Star Wars inspired outfit, wear a light blue athletic dress with orange accessories, white shorts with a blue top and orange accessories. And if you’re doing more of a cosplay, some face paint and lekku headtails are a great touch. You can find fully made headpieces on Etsy.
Han Solo: He’s a classic and most women dress up like him every fall anyways! Grab a utility vest, white tee, and some leggings to complete this look. (Don’t forget your sunglasses for extra coolness!)
Kylo Ren: If you’re a bit…. inspired, by the Dark Side, Kylo Ren is a recognizable character that you’ll find all around Galaxy’s Edge. Wear a black dress with red accessories.
Rey: To recreate her look, you’ll need a beige tunic, brown pants, and a pair of boots. You can also add a brown leather belt and wrist cuff as an added touch.
Poe Dameron: This resistance pilot makes a great Disneybound! Find a bright orange dress and pair it with a cream vest, and you’ll be ready for flight!
Princess Leia: A classic character with tons of looks, Princess Leia is a favorite for Disneybounding. Her classic white dress look from a New Hope with silver accessories is the most iconic Disneybound, add those side buns for added recognition!
Luke Skywalker: Luke is a character that has many phases throughout the saga, so there are lots of different looks to put together. Make a Tatooine inspired look with a pair of sand colored pants, white tunic, and wide belt.
Yoda: This wise Jedi is easy to Disneybound with a green or brown dress and beige cardigan, add in some sage green accessories as accents.
Padmé Amidala: Padmé is a fashionista and has so many great looks that you can Disneybound, the most iconic being the “lake dress” with an ombre effect of colors. There are actual full on recreations of this dress, and you can also combine the yellow, pink, and purple colors in your outfit to be inspired by her as well.
Cosplay Options
The world of Star Wars is vast and the fan community is made up of a vibrant community of real people with a passion for the storytelling and creativity found in Star Wars stories.
Cosplay outfits may be worn to events like ComicCons, and there are event specific Star Wars events where full cosplay is not only encouraged, but embraced.
Here are some detailed cosplay pieces to get your creativity flowing:
Choosing the Right Lightsaber
No Jedi or Sith costume is complete without a lightsaber. When choosing a lightsaber, consider the following:
- Color: Lightsabers come in a variety of colors, so choose one that matches your character. Blue or green for Jedi, red for Sith, and so on. I personally choose purple because it’s one of my favorite colors – and it also means you pave your own path!
- Size: Lightsabers come in different lengths, so choose one that fits your height and build.
- Sound: Some lightsabers come with sound effects, which can add to the authenticity of your costume.
We built lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop in Galaxy’s Edge during our Galactic Starcruiser trip, but there are also lots of option to purchase on Etsy or Amazon as well.
Selecting Boots and Props
In addition to a lightsaber, boots and props can also help complete your costume. Here are some things to consider:
- Boots: Choose boots that match your costume and are comfortable to wear. For example, Jedi boots are typically brown and have a high top, while Sith boots are black and have a more pointed toe.
- Props: Depending on your character, you may need additional props to complete your look. For example, Princess Leia’s iconic hairstyle can be achieved with a wig or hair accessories, while Chewbacca’s fur can be replicated with a furry vest.
