We recently had the chance to try it out, and it quickly became one of the highlights of our stop at Lookout Cay!

We loved the beautiful boat ride to the reef and swimming alongside schools of colorful fish. This adventure is both family friendly and a great cruise experience to have together.
Who is the Tropical Reef Safari Snorkel Excursion Best For?
The Tropical Reef Safari Snorkel excursion at Lookout Cay is best suited for guests ages 5 and up who feel comfortable in the water. Everyone should be ready for an active adventure!

While snorkel vests are available from the guides if needed. Participants should be confident swimmers since you’ll be responsible for getting off the boat and climbing back aboard when it’s time to depart. The crew provides clear instructions on which areas you’ll be snorkeling in, making it easy to explore while staying safe.

This excursion is an especially great choice for families with older elementary aged kids, tweens, and teens who are eager for a bit of adventure, but it’s equally enjoyable for adults traveling without kids who want a fun, scenic snorkeling experience.
How to Book the Tropical Reef Safari Snorkel Excursion
You can book the Tropical Reef Safari Snorkel just like any other Disney Cruise Line excursion. Through the Port Adventures section of your Disney Cruise Line account when your booking window is open.

Once your cruise is paid in full and your booking window opens (based on your Castaway Club status), you’ll be able to log in online or use the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App to reserve your spot.
Excursions at Lookout Cay tend to fill up quickly, so it’s a good idea to book as early as possible. This specific experience is listed as Tropical Reef Safari Snorkel (Port Adventure LPT18). You’ll want to look for that code when selecting excursions for your sailing.

At the time of our excursion, pricing was around $114 for adults (ages 10 and up) and $84 for children (ages 5 to 9). This is charged to your Disney Cruise account that you have connected to your stateroom on the day of your excursion.
Gratuity is optional, but we also brought some cash onto the island to give to our guides as well. I ended up giving them the full amount I had brought with me. We thought the service was outstanding and we would definitely book with this tour company again!

The Adventure Begins with a Boat Ride
Before your excursion time, head to the Port Adventures desk at Lookout Cay. This is located in the Turbot Berth Check-In building. You’ll have to fill out some electronic paperwork for all members of your party.

Your journey starts with a short 10 minute boat ride from the dock at Lookout Cay. This ride alone is worth it! The turquoise water, salty breeze, and sweeping island views set the perfect stage for what’s ahead.

I loved being able to see the Disney Dream in the distance! This was a great start to the excursion.

If you’re traveling with older kids, this part feels adventurous without being intimidating, and our tweens and teens loved it. This would also make a great excursion for an adults only trip as well!
Snorkeling at the Reef
Once you arrive, it’s time to jump in and explore the reef! The water is super clear, and there’s no shortage of marine life to spot. We saw plenty of tropical fish swimming by. Thanks to the guides, we all felt confident and comfortable the whole time.

The crew works to make sure that everyone is comfortable and answer any questions you may have. There are swimmer guides in the water with the snorkelers and a crew member that stayed on the boat to supervise.

The excursion was well organized, and the crew is both friendly and knowledgeable. Everything from the snorkeling gear to safety instructions was easy to follow. So you can spend more time enjoying the experience and less time worrying about logistics.
Why Tweens and Teens Will Love It
If you’re traveling with tweens or teens, this is a fantastic choice. It’s adventurous enough to keep them engaged, but not overly challenging.

They’ll love the freedom of snorkeling in open water while still having the security of guides nearby. Plus, it’s a great way to create shared memories that feel a little different from a standard beach day.
Helpful Tips Before You Go
This was an easy excursion to build into our day at Lookout Cay. At the time of our sailing there were three different time options available.

We picked the middle time that was at 11:15am so that our teens didn’t have to get up early. And that still gave us time to explore Lookout Cay both before our excursion and afterwards.
- Book early: Excursions like this tend to sell out quickly.
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen: You’ll want sun protection that’s safe for the environment.
- Pack a waterproof camera: Trust me, you’ll want to capture the underwater views!
- Hydrate and fuel up: It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement! Don’t forget water and a snack before you head out. They do offer some fruit punch and water on the way back to shore after snorkeling.
All of the Tropical Reef Safari Snorkel times were sold out on our sailing. So we recommend booking this one right when your booking time opens up if you’re interested in doing this one!
