Disney Destiny Outfits | What to Wear on a Disney Cruise

Planning what to wear on a Disney Cruise is almost as much fun as planning the cruise itself! On our recent Disney Destiny sailing, I packed outfits for everything from rotational dining and character greetings to relaxing beach days at Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay.

Since the Disney Destiny has such a fun Heroes and Villains theme, I also had plenty of opportunities to incorporate Disney-inspired outfits into our days onboard. From subtle character-inspired looks to outfits specifically chosen for Pirate Night and Halloween on the High Seas, I definitely had fun with my cruise wardrobe.

If you’re planning a Disney Destiny cruise and looking for Disney Cruise outfit ideas, here’s a look at what I wore and some inspiration for your own packing list.

Disney Destiny Embarkation Day Outfit

Embarkation Day is the first day of your sailing, and it is an important day! The outfit you arrive to port in, will likely be the outfit you have on for the first few hours of your cruise. Your luggage may not arrive to your room until after dinner on the first night, if you have first dinner and the luggage is running behind for some reason!

You’ll need to complete a lot of activities in this first outfit you arrive in, which may include tours around the ship, a muster drill, and the Sail Away party!

So I always like to arrive prepared in an outfit that I am comfortable in, but still will enjoy taking photos in during the first few hours on the ship. These lightweight dresses have been my “go to” choice for Embarkation Day outfits this year. They come in a number of colors and are easy to wear!

Disney Destiny Outfits for Dining

One of my favorite parts of a Disney Cruise is getting dressed for dinner. Since Disney Destiny has three rotational dining restaurants, I wanted to have a different look for each evening while still keeping everything comfortable enough for a cruise vacation. I tend to prefer outfits that feel put together without being overly dressy. Dresses, skirts, comfortable jumpsuits, and easy-to-style separates all work well for Disney Cruise Line dining.

For this cruise, I planned my outfits around the restaurants and the overall Disney theme. It was a fun way to make our evenings feel a little more special without packing an entire separate wardrobe.

Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King Restaurant Outfit Ideas

The show restaurant on the Disney Destiny has a Lion King theme and this is such a fun one to match your outfit to!

For this restaurant, I chose an animal print dress and matching mouse ears! These are also items I can wear again at Animal Kingdom!

1923 Restaurant Outfit Ideas

1923 is an elegant restaurant aboard the Disney Destiny, and this is a great night to get a little dressed up! Cruise casual is fine here of course, but I enjoy wearing a nice dress to dine here.

As luck would have it, our 1923 nights on the Disney Destiny were both themed nights! So the two nights we were in this restaurant were our Halloween on the High Seas night and Pirate Night! I ended up wearing my dedicated outfits for those events on both evenings to dinner, so we could go do activities directly after dining.

Worlds of Marvel Restaurant Outfit Ideas

Worlds of Marvel is perfect for Marvel fans! I wore my Loki inspired dress here and it worked great for the meal. Spiderman would be another perfect option, since the stern of the ship features Spiderman!

The biggest thing I recommend is choosing outfits that you will actually be comfortable wearing for several hours. Dinner can turn into a show, character interactions, walking around the ship, and exploring the different lounges afterward!

Disney Destiny Outfits for Character Meets

Character greetings are another reason I like planning Disney Cruise outfits ahead of time! On the Disney Destiny, there is a strong Heroes and Villains theme, so this is the perfect spot to get some photos with your favorite characters!

I prioritized getting photos with Loki, one of my favorite Marvel anti-heroes! He has a strong presence on the Disney Destiny, and I love how they incorporated his story! There were also two different character meet and greet times available. Once near the Grand Hall, where I wore a Loki inspired dress.

And on one of our beach days, there was a character meet available at Worlds of Marvel! I had a Loki shirt from Amazon that I wore for this greeting!

On a future sailing, I would also prioritize wearing a Maleficent outfit, as she is another character that is strongly represented throughout the ship.

Cruella deVil is also highly visible on the ship, with her own piano lounge and a number of shows you can see her in. This is another character I would recommend bringing an outfit to match if you’re so inclined.

Additionally, you’ll find all of the Fab Five Classic Characters and their pals throughout the cruise in their cruise outfits and other fun outfits as well!

Royal Gathering Outfit

The Royal Gathering was another occasion that is perfect to wear an outfit inspired by your favorite princesses! At our Royal Gathering on the Disney Destiny, there was Rapunzel, Tiana, Belle, and Moana.

I had a Sleeping Beauty inspired shirt and skirt that I tossed on as an easy outfit to wear down to the Grand Hall, but this is another great opportunity to match with your favorite princess!

Castaway Cay Outfits

Of course, not every Disney Cruise outfit needs to be fancy! For our day at Castaway Cay, I wanted something comfortable, practical, and easy to wear from the ship to the beach. I also wanting to take the opportunity to get some matching beach photos with Minnie Mouse!

I ordered this adorable Minnie dress from Etsy and wore it over my swimwear! This was a fun way to get some cute photos, and then be ready for the beach!

At the beaches I also brought this mesh backpack from Amazon to carry all of my items. It worked fantastic and I loved that it zipped closed! I think I’ve officially been won over to carry a backpack to the beach instead of an open tote.

Lookout Cay Outfit

We also visited Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, which gave me another opportunity to plan a fun beach-day outfit. The characters have bright and tropical outfits here, and this was another fun one to match Minnie Mouse!

After I took off my character outfit, I changed into my swimsuit and had this cute swim skirt to put over it while we were walking around the island.

Make sure to put on plenty of sunscreen! The sun was especially bright here!!

Pirate Night Outfit

No Disney Cruise wardrobe would be complete without a Pirate Night outfit! I’ve worn a lot of Pirate Night outfits over the years, and have an entire article dedicated to helping you pick out an outfit!

Found in photo: Shirt / Skirt / Belt

On the Disney Destiny, I actually used the bandanas we had received on previous cruises to help make a skirt! I got this black handkerchief skirt from Amazon and then safety-pinned the bandanas over the side of the skirt. Letting one point drop towards the bottom.

To finish off the outfit, I wore a white corset shirt and a wide pirate themed belt! This outfit was surprisingly comfortable to wear! And I would wear it again on a future cruise!

Halloween on the High Seas Outfit

Since our sailing included Halloween on the High Seas, I also packed a Halloween-inspired outfit for the festivities. I matched with my creator friends on the cruise, Donna from HeyDisMoms and Heather from HeatherwithSecondStoryTravel! We went as the three fairies from Sleeping Beauty!

This was such an adorable group costume that worked well when you have a trio! I love that we can use the dresses again after Halloween too!

How Many Outfits Should You Pack for a Disney Cruise?

This is probably the question I get most often when talking about cruise outfits. I’m a big Haunted Mansion fan, so I brought some “extra” outfits for going to places like The Haunted Mansion Parlor on the ship!

The answer depends on your itinerary and how often you want to change clothes, but I recommend thinking about your cruise by activity rather than simply by day. It will likely be more outfits than days you are on the cruise!

For a Disney Destiny cruise, your packing list might include:

  • Daytime Outfits
  • Dinner Outfits
  • Character Meet Outfits
  • Water/Beach Outfits
  • Special Event Outfits (Pirate Night, etc.)

And don’t forget items like comfortable shoes and a small crossbody bag to carry essentials around in! You won’t need much on the ship, but I like keeping a few items like lip gloss, mints, and my camera in a small bag.

I also like having a few daytime outfits or casual outfits that are perfect to use to up and grab some Quick Service from Deck 11 or other quick trips around the ship!

Tips for Planning Your Disney Cruise Outfits

One of the best things I did before our Disney Destiny cruise was to think through my outfits before packing.

I knew which nights I wanted to dress up, which characters I wanted to meet, and which special events I wanted to participate in. That made it much easier to decide what to bring.

I also recommend taking pictures of your outfits before you pack them. You can create a little album on your phone with each day’s outfit. Then, when you’re onboard, you don’t have to stand in front of your suitcase trying to remember what goes with what.

And don’t forget accessories! Mouse ears, themed bags, jewelry, shoes, and even a fun pair of sunglasses can completely change a simple outfit. I of course love adding in some fun mouse ears to every outfit!

Most importantly, pack for the vacation you’re actually taking. If you don’t normally wear uncomfortable shoes or elaborate outfits at home, a cruise probably isn’t the place to suddenly start.

Planning Your Disney Destiny Wardrobe

One of my favorite things about a Disney Cruise is that there really is no “right” way to dress for it. You can keep things casual, plan coordinated Disney looks, dress up for dinner, or have fun with themed outfits for the special events. I love having a mix of all of these throughout the cruise!

When I pack for Disney Destiny, I want my outfits to feel like part of the experience. A character-inspired look can make a character greeting even more memorable, while a fun dinner outfit makes the evening feel a little more special. And then there are the beach days, when comfort is definitely the priority.

If you’re planning your own Disney Destiny cruise, hopefully these outfits give you a few ideas for what to pack and, more importantly, inspire you to have a little fun with your cruise wardrobe. After all, you’re on a Disney Cruise! It’s the perfect time to wear Disney outfits you’ve been waiting to wear!
