Why Disney World in October?

If you love Halloween, you’re in for a treat at Walt Disney World during the month of October! There are Halloween festivities throughout the entire month, and special ticketed events like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party – where you get to actually trick or treat inside Magic Kingdom! This is fun for kids and adults alike, as everyone is welcome to dress up in costumes for party nights.

Costumes should not drag the ground, be grotesque, and adults are not able to wear a mask – but otherwise you can let your imagination take over and creativity shine! Visit the Disney World costume rules page to find out more about restrictions on costumes during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party.

The weather will not be as hot as the summer months in Florida, but still plenty warm enough to enjoy water rides and even go to the water parks. You’ll still want to prepare for the heat by drinking plenty of water, wearing sunscreen, and visit our what to wear section below for tips on how to pack for Walt Disney World in October.

There are also special Halloween themed treats and experiences throughout the theme parks throughout the month of October, so make sure to watch for these at all of the resorts and theme parks.

Weather in October at Walt Disney World

In October, the weather at Walt Disney World is generally pleasant with lower humidity and cooler temperatures compared to the summer months. The average high temperature during the day is around 84°F (29°C), while the average low temperature at night is around 67°F (19°C).

The Florida sun will still get quite hot during the day, so it’s important to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen. Additionally, while October is generally a drier month, there is still a chance of rain, so it’s a good idea to pack a poncho or umbrella just in case.

Visiting Disney in October

October is a busy time during some of the weeks as many states have a Fall Break time period and lots of families opt to spend their break at Walt Disney World. Since these weeks rotate, October has become a generally fairly busy time of year to visit, with some pockets of days that are less crowded.

If you’re planning to go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, you’ll want to get your tickets well in advance because party nights often sell out. Especially as the dates get closer to the night of Halloween. And typically Halloween Night at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is always a sold out party night.

On days that there are parties if you have an annual pass or park hopper ticket, these can make great days to visit Magic Kingdom earlier in the day before the party starts and then you can hop over to other parks to enjoy the evening if you do not have party tickets.

There are also special experience like Minnie’s Halloween Dine at Hollywood & Vine that you can reserve for your family to have a fun and festive meal during your trip too!

Quick Tips for Visiting Disney World in October

On my most recent trip, I took some time to take photos with the Photo Pass photographers on Main Street in Magic Kingdom! I’m so glad that I did, I love the Halloween ambiance going on behind me and this gives you a great indication of the crowd level on a non-party night at Magic Kingdom.

Here are some additional tips for visiting Walt Disney World in October:

1. Crowds: As you get closer to the Halloween holiday crowds tend to pick up, with weekends being more crowded as well when locals tend to visit as well. Plan out your days to maximize your park time and build in time to rest at the resort. If you have park hoppers or an annual pass, this is a great time of year to go from park to park, when you’re looking to avoid parks with a higher crowd.

2. Festivities: Halloween at Walt Disney World is a big deal! Check out the party schedule if you’re interested in going to a party night. And even if you’re not planning on going to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween, there are still plenty of Halloween activities to keep you busy! Enjoy the treats throughout the theme parks and resorts, and wear your Halloween festive wear into the parks to get themed photos.

3. Dining reservations: If you plan on dining at any of the table-service restaurants in the parks or resorts, it’s a good idea to make reservations in advance, especially during the busier times of month

4. Genie+: This is a great tool to help you save time waiting in line for attractions. Be sure to book your Genie+ reservations in advance, they open each morning at 7am local time. Use the app to help your day and make sure you get all of your “must do” rides and attractions in your schedule.

5. Sunscreen & Hydrate: It’s still quite warm in October, so while you’re making the most of your time don’t forget to take breaks to stay hydrated and get out of the sun. You’ll also want to stop for frequent water breaks and wear sunscreen to avoid getting a sunburn.

Get ready to have a magical Halloween at the happiest place on earth!
