What’s the Weather Like in August at Disney World?
August is very hot at Walt Disney World. Average daytime highs are usually in the mid-90s, and the humidity can make it feel even warmer while you’re walking through the theme parks.

This is not the month to overpack heavy clothing or outfits that don’t breathe well. Lightweight athletic fabrics, moisture-wicking tops, shorts, skorts, summer dresses, and comfortable sandals or sneakers are all great options for August park days.
If you’re looking for more ideas on breathable outfits, my guide to the Best Summer Dresses for Disney World has some great options for staying cool while still feeling put together in the parks.
You’ll also want to plan for afternoon rain. Pop-up rain showers are very common in Orlando during the summer months. These storms can come up quickly, but they often pass within an hour or so. I always recommend keeping a poncho or compact umbrella in your park bag so you’re not caught off guard.

Even though August is hot, the rain can sometimes cool things down slightly in the evening. But most nights will still feel warm, so you usually won’t need a jacket or sweatshirt unless you get cold indoors at restaurants or on transportation.
For August, I would focus on packing:
- Lightweight outfits
- Cooling towels
- Portable fans
- Sunscreen
- Ponchos
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Refillable water bottles
- Extra hair ties
- A small park bag
- Pool and water park items, including a hat for the pool!
The heat can be intense, but with the right packing list, you can still have a wonderful trip! For even more ideas, check out my full list of Hot Weather Essentials for Disney World.
What’s Happening at Disney World in August
There are several fun things happening at Disney World in August, especially if you love summer activities and the beginning of Halloween season.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party begins at Magic Kingdom in August. For 2026, the event starts on August 7 and runs on select nights through October 31. This is a separately ticketed event, which means you’ll need a special event ticket in addition to your regular park plans.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party includes trick-or-treating, special entertainment, festive overlays, Halloween-themed characters, and a fun not-so-scary atmosphere that works well for families.

Because this event begins in August, you may want to pack Halloween-themed outfits, festive Minnie ears, or lightweight costumes if you plan to attend. Just remember that August is extremely hot, so choose costumes or themed outfits that are breathable and easy to wear in warm weather.
August is also a great time to enjoy your Disney Resort pool or visit a water park. Disney Resort Collection hotel guests can enjoy complimentary water park admission on their check-in day for summer 2026 arrivals through September 8. You can find more details about this and other seasonal offerings in my 2026 Summer Fun at Disney World guide.

If you’re planning to take advantage of the water park benefit, make sure you pack your swimsuits, waterproof sandals, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a change of clothes in an easy-to-access bag.

August Specific Packing Essentials
August packing is all about staying cool, dry, and comfortable. The weather is very hot and humid, so you’ll want to choose breathable pieces that are easy to move around in.
Plan to pack outfits for temperatures in the 90s. Athletic gear is one of the best choices for August because it dries quickly, feels lightweight, and helps keep you more comfortable during long park days.

Avoid heavy denim, thick fabrics, and anything that will feel uncomfortable once you start sweating. Instead, choose athletic shorts, tennis dresses, skorts, breathable t-shirts, tank tops, and lightweight sundresses.
You’ll also want to bring a few pairs of comfortable shoes to rotate during your trip. With the heat, rain, and amount of walking you’ll do, it’s nice to have a backup pair in case one gets wet or starts to rub.
For your park bag, bring items that will help you handle the heat and rain. A cooling towel, handheld fan, sunscreen, poncho, and refillable water bottle are must-haves for August. My Hot Weather Essentials for Disney World article has even more ideas for staying cool during summer park days.
You may also want to pack a small towel or extra shirt if you have little kids, especially if you plan to use splash pads or water play areas during the day.

Outfit Ideas for August at Disney
August at Disney World is the perfect time to keep your outfits simple, lightweight, and practical. You can still look cute in photos, but comfort should be your top priority.

For park days, I love the idea of wearing athletic dresses, tennis dresses, skorts, biker shorts with oversized tees, or breathable matching sets. These types of outfits are easy to wear in the heat and still look put together in photos.
If you prefer dresses, choose lightweight fabrics and wear bike shorts underneath. This makes it easier to walk, ride attractions, and stay comfortable throughout the day. My guide to the Best Summer Dresses for Disney World is a great place to start if you want easy dress ideas for hot park days.
For shoes, bring your most comfortable walking shoes and a pair of waterproof sandals. August rain showers can leave the parks wet, and it’s helpful to have shoes that dry quickly.
For accessories, pack sunglasses, a hat, comfortable Minnie ears, and a small crossbody bag or belt bag. You don’t want to carry anything too heavy in August, especially when it’s hot and humid.

If you’re attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, choose a lightweight Halloween outfit instead of a heavy costume. A themed t-shirt with a skirt, a breathable character-inspired dress, or a Halloween-colored athletic outfit can be a great option.

Planning Your August Trip to Disney World
August can be a very hot month to visit Walt Disney World, but it can also be a great time for pool breaks, water park days, and late summer fun.

Because the heat is so strong, I recommend planning breaks during the hottest part of the day. You may want to visit the parks in the morning, return to your resort for lunch and pool time, and then head back out in the evening.
Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, reapply sunscreen often, and take advantage of indoor shows, longer attractions, and air-conditioned restaurants when you need a break. For more warm-weather park bag ideas, check out my Hot Weather Essentials for Disney World.
If you’re staying at a Disney Resort Collection hotel, don’t forget to look into the complimentary water park admission benefit on your check-in day. This can be a fun way to start your vacation and cool off before your park days begin. My 2026 Summer Fun at Disney World article has more information on what to expect during the summer season.
And if you’re visiting later in the month, consider adding Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party to your plans. It’s such a fun way to experience Magic Kingdom with special entertainment, Halloween treats, and festive character moments.
Cheers to making magical memories with your family at Disney World in August!
