What to Wear to runDisney Wine and Dine

One of the most fun parts of planning for a runDisney race is… the outfits! You’ll see all kinds of different outfits, from the practical, to inspired by a favorite character, to a full on running costume. Going to a runDisney race weekend is a fun activity to do with friends, and you’ll often seen group costumes too!

EPCOT Inspired Dress / EPCOT Inspired Ears

This EPCOT inspired dress would be a perfect dress for both a day in the parks, or a run around the theme park!

There are tons of great outfits from companies like Crowned Athletics and Wrong Lever Clothing Co., that work great as a Disneybound to wear while you’re running! It’s so much fun to use your imagination when putting your race outfit together.

A lot of people will be wearing regular running gear but you’ll see the full range of outfit styles at the event – everything from tutus over running gear to a full on costume that was made to run in! Here are some race day essential ideas!

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend

At runDisney events they combine running with  Disney magic. The Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend began in 2010. It was created to celebrate both running and Disney’s culinary offerings.

This event allows runners to experience the parks after dark and enjoy themed activities along the way. The event’s focus on food and wine reflects Disney’s commitment to high-quality dining experiences.

The Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend includes several races over a few days. You can participate in a 5K, 10K, or the half marathon, which covers 13.1 miles. This weekend takes place in November, showcasing beautiful fall weather. After the races, you can explore the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival featuring food and wine tastings from around the world.

All races are currently sold out with some tickets still available for the Post-Race Party. The post race party is similar to an EPCOT After Hours Party, where you get access to rides and attractions after the park has officially closed for the day. Plan what to wear to the party below! 

Disney Two Course Challenge

The Disney Two Course Challenge allows you to run a 10K and a half marathon during the same weekend. Completing both races totals 19.3 miles. Participants who finish this challenge receive a special medal, which adds to the excitement. This challenge attracts serious runners and casual participants alike, making it a popular choice.

Race Options and Courses

The runDisney Wine and Dine event features several race options. You can choose from a 5K10K, or a Half Marathon. Each course is unique and takes you through the vibrant sights of Disney.

  • 5K Course: This course is perfect for beginners and families. It usually takes place in the Disney area and features fun photo ops along the way.
  • 10K Course: The 10K is for those looking to challenge themselves a bit more. This course also showcases beautiful views and entertainment, making it an exciting run.
  • Half Marathon Course: The Half Marathon is a longer distance and attracts serious runners. It travels through various parts of EPCOT, especially during the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, offering a festive atmosphere for participants.

Pacing Requirements and Equipment

Each race has pacing requirements. Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • 5K: A participant must maintain a 16-minute mile pace. This allows plenty of time for walking or jogging.
  • 10K: The pacing limit is also set at 16 minutes per mile. You should prepare for a steady run.
  • Half Marathon: This race requires maintaining a 16-minute mile pace, which includes both running and walking portions.

Make sure to wear proper running shoes and comfortable clothing. You can carry hydration packs or belts, but check the specific rules for each race regarding special gear.

Learn the important details about the event before you arrive. This includes information about the expo, transportation options, and how to prepare for your race.

Expo & Road Closure Information

The health and fitness expo is a key part of your runDisney Wine and Dine experience. You can pick up your expo pass and race bib here, which is required for race entry. The expo features vendors, exclusive merchandise, and helpful resources.

Expect road closures during the event. Main roads around the Walt Disney World Resort may close to accommodate the races. Check the runDisney website for specific road closure times. It’s wise to plan your travel accordingly to avoid delays.

Transportation and Accommodation

Getting to the event is crucial for a smooth experience. Disney offers various transportation options, including buses from the resorts to the event location. You may also choose rideshare options for convenience. Plan in extra travel time to get to the race corrals, just in case you have to wait on transportation to arrive. 

Consider booking a Disney Resort for easy access to race transportation. This can reduce travel stress and allow you to enjoy the pre-race excitement. Be sure to check for any special packages that might include race-related perks.

Post-Race Events and Entertainment

After the race, you can take part in exciting activities and enjoy a lively atmosphere. There are options for food, drinks, and entertainment. You will not want to miss these experiences.

Post-Race Party Details

The post-race party is a highlight of the weekend. You can celebrate your hard work with fellow runners. In 2024, the post race party will be at EPCOT, where party goers will be have special access to rides throughout the event, some complimentary food and drink options, and exclusive merchandise.

These parties are similar to a regular EPCOT After Hours party, and you can enter the park early around 7pm, then stay after the fireworks and wait for the after hours fun to begin! 

Post Race Party Outfit Ideas

Planning your outfit for the post race party can be just as fun as planning what to wear to the race itself! Stay comfortable, and you can arrive as casual or as themed as you would like!

Merchandise and Finisher Medals

You will find exclusive merchandise at the wine and dine event. Items typically include apparel, accessories, and unique collectibles. These are perfect for remembering your accomplishment. Consider something like a commemorative pin that is easily wearable and can be packed easily too! 

Finisher medals are awarded to all participants. They feature themed designs, often reflecting Disney characters or specific race themes. Collecting these medals can become a fun goal for your future run Disney races.

Making the Most of Your runDisney Experience

Entertainment is a big part of the post-race experience. Typically, there are live performances from local bands or DJs. This keeps the energy high and the excitement going.

You may also find interactive activities during the celebration. These can include character meet-and-greets, photo opportunities, and games for all ages.

The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival overlaps with the Wine and Dine race too. This gives you a chance to explore diverse food and drink options to further enhance your post-race celebrations.
