From the cozy accommodations to all of the outdoor activities, this is one Walt Disney World resort we’ll definitely return to soon!

We’ve detailed everything you need to know about staying at The Cabins at Fort Wilderness below!

What Makes The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Unique?

The cabins at Fort Wilderness offer a unique and peaceful experience you won’t find at many other Disney resorts. Each standalone cabin sleeps up to six guests and includes a full kitchen, separate bedroom, living room with a Murphy bed, bathroom, and even a private deck with a picnic table and grill.

We found the accommodations to be incredibly comfortable for our family. There’s something special about waking up surrounded by pine trees and hearing birds chirping outside while still being just a short boat or bus ride away from Magic Kingdom.

They also have full kitchens if you want to do some cooking at the resort for longer stays, and there is a regular refrigerator to be able to hold more food.

Renting a golf cart to use to get around the resort was also super fun! You can rent the golf carts right at Fort Wilderness per day. There are charging stations set up in the parking area of your cabin.

We would recommend that this location experience is probably best starting at ages 7 and up, since you’ll want to get around in the golf cart most of the time.

The Cabins used to be classed as a moderate level resort. However after the new refreshed cabins were put in recently, Disney has reclassified The Cabins at Fort Wilderness as Deluxe Villa level accomodations.

Accommodations at The Cabins at Fort Wilderness

The cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. Each cabin features a separate bedroom with a queen bed and twin bunk beds.

Plus there’s a Murphy style pull down bed in the living area, allowing up to six guests to sleep comfortably.

You’ll also find a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishwasher. This makes the setup ideal for preparing meals during longer stays.

The living area includes a cozy seating space and a dining table, while outside, each cabin has its own private deck with a picnic table, charcoal grill, and plenty of peaceful forest views.

The bathroom is also convenient for families, with a sink and shower setup behind the door and a second sink in the hallway.

There’s also a second sink in the hallway outside of the main bathroom. We found this convenient when multiple poeple needed to get ready at the same time.

It truly feels like a home away from home nestled in the heart of Walt Disney World. This is a great location if you’re planning on staying over a week, but works for shorter stays as well!

There are small parking spaces outside of the cabins that will work for a golf cart or vehicle if you’re driving in.

Activities at Fort Wilderness

When you stay at Fort Wilderness, you’re going to want to plan in plenty of time to do activities at the resort, because there is a LOT to do here!

Fort Wilderness is packed with activities for families who enjoy the great outdoors! During our stay, we visited the Tri-Circle D Ranch, home to the beautiful horses that work on Main Street U.S.A.!

We also went kayaking, which was a relaxing and scenic way to explore the resort. And the kids enjoyed mining for gems, an activity that is available daily.

A true highlight of our trip was attending the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue! A dinner show packed with music, comedy, and delicious food. It’s located in Pioneer Hall and was a fun-filled evening for the whole family.

Next time we visit, we’re planning to try archery and trail riding, two more outdoor experiences that are perfect for guests who want to get a taste of adventure.

Fort Wilderness Pools & Nightly Fun

There are also two pool areas, including the main Meadow Swimmin’ Pool with a fun waterslide, hot tub, and adjacent splash play area perfect for younger kids.

And a quiet pool in the Cabins area if you’re looking for a quieter pool experience.

Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-Along is a fun, family friendly evening event! You can roast marshmallows, enjoy live music, and meet the lovable chipmunks for photos and dancing under the stars.

This was a fun way to end our day! We purchased the S’mores kit from the food truck and it was more than enough for our kids to share!

Bottom line is, there is tons to do for school aged kids and families at Fort Wilderness!

My kids loved all of the different activities! We didn’t have time to even get to them all during our trip! So a return trip is being planned to be able to take part in activities like archery (only available certain days) and the trail riding!

Getting Around is Part of the Fun

One of my favorite parts of our stay? Renting a golf cart! Fort Wilderness is a large resort with winding trails, scenic paths, and multiple internal bus loops, but cruising around in a golf cart made everything more convenient and a lot more fun.

It was especially helpful for getting to the marina, the pool, and the restaurants. I found that I LOVED driving the golf cart around the resort, and we actually ended up extending our rental on our checkout day because I was enjoying myself so much!

There is golf cart parking near the main attractions at the resort, and you can also park it near where the bus stop or boat landing are to head to the theme parks.

Golf cart rentals are available from the Fort Wilderness Golf Cart Rentals right onsite at Fort Wilderness. It’s located next to the Reception Outpost near the main entrance to the resort. Rental prices are currently around $70 per day for a four seater golf cart. And priced at around $93 per day for a six seater golf cart.

Drivers must be 16 years of age and older, with a valid drivers license. Make sure to have your license on you while operating the golf cart as well!

We did have a battery charging issue with our first golf cart. We were just able to zip back down to the rental location to trade it out for a different cart. So if you have any issues, just get ahold of them and they will be happy to help you out!

You can also bring your own golf cart from home, you just need to provide proof of insurance at check-in. We saw some pretty outstanding personally owned golf carts while we were there!

Check out this Mater inspired golf cart we saw at the pool! It was one of my absolute favorites!

Dining Options at Fort Wilderness

While Fort Wilderness may not have a traditional table-service restaurant (outside of the Hoop-Dee-Doo dinner show), we were pleasantly surprised by the Trail’s End quick service options.

We ate there multiple times during our stay and always found something tasty, from hearty breakfast options to satisfying lunch options.

They also serve up family size portions of items in the coolers that you can take back to your RV or cabin!

There is also Crockett’s Tavern that serves appetizers and a range of libations. And a pool quick service at the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool that offers quick bites to eat.

We have a full review on Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, because it isn’t just dining… It’s an experience! If you haven’t done that one yet, we highly recommend checking out this engaging dinner show that is fun for the whole family!

Would I Stay at The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Again?

This is definitely a resort that we will be returning to again soon! In fact, I’m already starting to plan a longer stay here for our family!

What makes Fort Wilderness stand out is how it offers a different kind of Disney vacation, one that’s a little more relaxed, a little more nature focused, and filled with unique experiences. We left feeling recharged and connected as a family, and we can’t wait to return.

Whether you’re roasting marshmallows at Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long or just enjoying some downtime on your cabin’s front porch, The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort are a magical getaway that feel like a home away from home.

This one is an especially great option if you’ve been to Disney World a number of times and you’re looking for something a bit different to try! It is also great for families with school aged children, tween, or teens because of all of the nature activities here!
