How to Prepare for a Rainy Party Night at Disney World
Rainy evenings at Walt Disney World don’t have to spoil the fun! Especially if you have a ticket booked for a special event like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom. On my September 16th, 2025 party night, the skies opened up for about two hours, but even with the rain, the party was still filled with candy, characters, and plenty of Halloween magic.

With a little planning, you can make the most of your night even if the weather doesn’t cooperate!
Pack Ponchos and Be Ready for Florida Showers
Florida is known for its sudden rain showers, especially in the late summer and early fall. One of the best tips for preparing for a rainy party night at Disney World is to pack disposable ponchos in your luggage before you arrive.

They’re lightweight, easy to carry in your park bag, and much less expensive when purchased ahead of time rather than in the parks.
Having a poncho ready to go can make all the difference in keeping you dry while you enjoy outdoor rides, parades, and trick-or-treating. You may also consider bringing a small travel umbrella and a rain cover for your stroller as well!
Use Indoor Locations as Rain Breaks
When the rain started during my party night, I made the most of it by hopping from trick-or-treat stops to quick service restaurants.

These covered locations were the perfect places to stay dry while still collecting candy or grabbing a bite to eat.

Taking advantage of indoor attractions and meet-and-greet spots can also help you keep the fun going without letting the rain slow you down.
Don’t Skip the Characters and Candy
Even with the rain, there are still plenty of opportunities to see characters and fill your treat bag. Many characters have indoor or covered meet-and-greet locations, and the cast members keep the candy flowing rain or shine.

By moving quickly between stops, you can stay fairly dry and still experience much of the magic.

During my night, I collected tons of treats and still got to meet a variety of characters, all while keeping spirits high despite the weather.
Embrace the Atmosphere
While a rainy party night might not be what you envisioned, it can actually add a unique twist to your Disney World experience.

The lights reflecting off the wet pavement, smaller crowds during downpours, and the cozy feeling of ducking into themed locations all contribute to a different kind of Disney magic.

With the right attitude (and a poncho!), you can still have a fantastic time.
Be Prepared for Delays
One important thing to keep in mind during a rainy party night at Disney World is that special entertainment like parades and fireworks may be delayed or even canceled due to weather. Safety always comes first, especially when it comes to outdoor performances.

It’s a good idea to keep an ear out for announcements throughout the evening and stay flexible with your plans.

In my experience, Disney does everything they can to still bring the magic to guests once the weather clears.

Two years in a row I’ve attended MNSSHP on rainy nights where the first parade was either delayed or canceled, but by 10:00PM the skies cleared and the fireworks and second parade went on as planned. Staying optimistic and patient can help you enjoy the night even if the schedule shifts.
Making the Most of Your Time at Disney World
Rain doesn’t have to ruin your special event at Walt Disney World! With a little preparation, like packing ponchos and planning your indoor trick-or-treat and dining spots, you’ll be ready for all types of weather!
