Best Fireworks Experiences at Walt Disney World

Fireworks are one of the most magical parts of a Walt Disney World vacation. There is just something special about ending a Disney day with music, lights, castle projections, fireworks, and everyone gathered together for that big nighttime finale.

But as wonderful as Disney fireworks are, they can also come with big crowds, long waits, and the feeling of being packed into one place at the end of a very full park day.

If your family loves fireworks but doesn’t love standing in a large crowd, there are several special fireworks experiences at Walt Disney World that can make the night feel easier, more memorable, and a little more magical.

Best Fireworks Experiences at Walt Disney World

If you’re planning a special Disney night, these are some of the best fireworks experiences to consider.

Walt Disney World Fireworks Cruise

A Fireworks Cruise at Walt Disney World is one of the most special ways to watch Disney fireworks without being in the middle of a large crowd.

fireworks cruise

With this experience, your family charters a private boat and watches the fireworks from the water. Disney currently offers specialty fireworks cruises for nighttime spectaculars, including Magic Kingdom fireworks from the Seven Seas Lagoon area and EPCOT fireworks from Crescent Lake. We’ve done both types of cruises and they are both fantastic options!

This can be a wonderful option if you are celebrating a birthday, an anniversary, a multigenerational family trip, or a once-in-a-lifetime Disney vacation. It also works well for families who love the fireworks but do not want to deal with the crowded exit from Magic Kingdom or EPCOT immediately after the show.

The biggest benefit of a fireworks cruise is the space and privacy. Instead of standing in a crowd, your family has your own reserved experience. It feels calm, special, and very different from watching from inside the theme park.

We recommend these for families that have experiences the fireworks in a regular way, and are looking for a special fireworks experience. The cruises can hold up to 10 guests for one price, making this actually an economical splurge for a fairly large party!

Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Party

A Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Party is another great option for families who want a more organized fireworks experience.

Disney currently offers Magic Kingdom fireworks dessert party options connected to Happily Ever After, including pre-party, post-party, and seated options depending on availability. The post-party option includes reserved fireworks viewing followed by desserts, while the pre-party option includes desserts before fireworks and then reserved viewing.

This experience is especially helpful if your family does not want to stake out a spot hours in advance. You still need to arrive on time and follow the event instructions, but having a reserved viewing area can make the evening feel much easier.

Dessert parties are also nice for families who want a built-in treat experience. Instead of grabbing snacks separately and trying to find a viewing spot in the crowd, the dessert party turns the fireworks into a planned event. It is a per person ticket price, and there needs to be availability for your entire party to book this one. Making this one slightly more difficult to book for larger parties.

Theme Park View Rooms

A Theme Park View (Fireworks View) Room can be one of the most relaxing ways to enjoy Magic Kingdom fireworks. Most of the resorts around Seven Seas Lagoon offer Theme Park View/Fireworks View rooms, that are a great way to take in the nightly shows. The closest of these resorts is Contemporary Resort.

This is not just a fireworks experience, it’s also a resort room category, which means it is usually a much bigger splurge. But for some families, being able to watch fireworks from your balcony or room can be a dream part of the trip.

This can be especially nice if you have little kids, grandparents, or anyone in your group who gets tired at the end of the day. Instead of fighting crowds or trying to make your way out of the park after fireworks, you can enjoy the show from your resort and then settle in for the night.

Theme park view rooms are also a great option if your family wants the fireworks experience without actually being inside the park that evening. You may not get the same full castle projection experience that you would get from Main Street, but the convenience can be wonderful.

These could be the most expensive option out of our highlighted experiences, because there is an additional per night cost for these rooms with an elevated view. However if you’re open to doing a split stay at multiple Disney Resorts, this can be a great way to experience the theme park view room for a night or two. Then you can move to a different resort experience.

Other Resort Options

If you’ll be staying around the EPCOT or Hollywood Studios areas, you can also catch glimpses of those fireworks shows in the distance from many resorts.

  • Disney’s Riviera Resort – Resort view rooms facing West can see EPCOT fireworks
  • Disney’s Caribbean Resort – Can see both Magic Kingdom & EPCOT fireworks from the main pool!
  • Beach Club Resort – East side of the resort facing EPCOT can see EPCOT fireworks
  • Yacht Club Resort – Head to dock area to see EPCOT fireworks in the distance
  • Boardwalk Inn Resort – Rooms facing East towards EPCOT can see fireworks

Free Places to Watch Disney Fireworks Outside the Parks

There are also some free options to watch the fireworks from different locations that don’t cost money and don’t require a theme park ticket. They may not be as optimal viewing, and may also have a small crowd… but they can still be a lot of fun!

Which Disney Fireworks Experience Is Best for Families?

The best fireworks experience depends on your family’s priorities.

If you want the most private and memorable experience, a fireworks cruise is hard to beat. It feels special, relaxed, and very different from a regular park viewing spot.

If you want the best combination of reserved viewing and Magic Kingdom atmosphere, a fireworks dessert party is a great choice! You are still inside the park and still get the big fireworks feeling, but with a more organized setup.

If you want the most relaxed option, a theme park view room may be the best choice. Watching fireworks in pajamas from your resort room or balcony can be a dream for families with younger kids.

If you want a free option, try watching from one of the Magic Kingdom resorts. Or you could take the ferry across Seven Seas Lagoon, or catch the EPCOT fireworks from the Skyliner.

Our Thoughts on Disney Fireworks Experiences

Fireworks experiences at Walt Disney World can be a wonderful splurge! Especially if your family loves nighttime shows, but does not love the crowds. We love these special add-ons to create memorable moments for a celebration during a trip!

These experiences are not necessary for every trip. You can absolutely enjoy Disney fireworks from regular viewing areas in the parks. If you have already watched the fireworks several times, or if you are planning a special vacation, these options can make the night feel more personal and memorable.

We especially like these experiences for families who:

  • Have already seen the fireworks from inside the park.
  • Want to avoid the biggest crowds.
  • Are celebrating something special.
  • Have younger kids who struggle with late nights.
  • Want to make one evening of the trip feel extra special.

The fireworks are already magical, but the right viewing experience can make them feel even more special for your family.
