The best case scenario is that you realize you’ve lost an item fairly soon after losing it. If you know the exact location where you think you’ve lost the item, that gives you the best chance at trying to relocate it! We’ve lost items at Disney World multiple times, with varying success in finding them. I’ll give my best tips below to try to get you reunited with your item!
Does Disney Have a Lost and Found?
Yes, Disney World does have a Lost and Found service, and it covers much more than just the theme parks. Guests can report missing items lost at the theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, ESPN Wide World of Sports, Disney Resort hotels, and even on Disney transportation like buses, monorails, boats, and the Disney Skyliner.

Disney uses an online lost-and-found system to help track missing items.

There are also multiple lost and found centers across the theme parks. You can also talk with the front desk of your resort to file at report. You can find the list of all of the locations to report a lost item and the online reporting system here.
How to Report a Lost Item at Disney World
If you are still at a Disney resort when you realize you’ve lost something, all you need to do is head to the lobby of your resort. You can pick up a lost and found form with more details. You can also get full details on the lost and found system at Disney here.

If you realize you left something behind after you’ve left, Disney asks guests to submit a lost item report online. After the form is submitted, you’ll receive an email with a Lost Item claim number. Disney says their team will continue searching and send an update by email within 48 hours.
When filling out the form, it helps to be as detailed as possible. Include what the item looks like, where you think you lost it, and when you last had it. The more specific you are, the easier it is for the Lost and Found team to try to match your report to an item that has been turned in.
Where Do You Get the Lost and Found Form at Disney World?
If you’re still at Disney World when you realize you’ve lost something, you typically will need to go to the resort lobby Guest Services to fill out the Lost and Found report.

If you don’t realize you are missing something until after you get home. You’ll need to fill out this online form for people who have already returned home and realized they lost something.
Our Experiences With Lost Items at Disney
We’ve had to use the Lost and Found process when at Disney World a few different times, with different results. It is an efficient service. In our experience the more detailed description you can give of a distinguishable item, the better results you’ll have at getting your item back.

On one trip my daughter lost a Frozen water bottle that was not sold at Disney World, so it was easily distinguishable from other Disney merchandise. It was left by our chair at Stormalong Bay pool area at Beach Club Resort, so we knew approximately the location it should have been found. It also had her name written on the bottle.
We filled out the lost and found form at guests services while at Disney World, and while it wasn’t found during our trip… we received the bottle in the mail shortly after we returned home!

This water bottle was purchased at Barnes & Noble. It was a part of a small run of products that looked like this particular bottle. We were able to accurately describe the colors and pattern on the bottle on the lost item form. And my daughter’s name was on the bottom of the bottle. Further aiding Disney in being able to match it up to us!
Not as Great Results
On another trip, my other daughter lost her water shoes, with different results. They were basic black water shoes, without any distinguishable markings. Additionally, they didn’t have her name on them and were from Amazon. The shoes could be a frequently found type of item. To add to that, we knew she lost them somewhere at Polynesian Village Resort, but we couldn’t remember quite where they ended up.

Although we filled out the form at Guest Services to find the water shoes, they were not ever found.
So it’s worth filling out the form and reporting your lost item as soon as possible! So that if it is found, you stand the best chance of having it returned to you while still at Disney World.
