What’s the Weather Like in September at Disney World?

September is still very hot at Walt Disney World. Average daytime highs are usually in the 90s. The humidity can make it feel even warmer while you’re walking through the theme parks.

This is not the month to pack heavy clothing or outfits that don’t breathe well. Lightweight athletic fabrics, moisture-wicking tops, shorts, skorts, summer dresses, and comfortable sandals or sneakers are all great options for September park days.

If you’re looking for more breathable outfit ideas, my guide to the Best Summer Dresses for Disney World has helpful options for staying cool while still feeling put together in the parks.

You’ll also want to plan for rain. September is during hurricane season in Florida, and while that doesn’t mean your trip will be ruined, it does mean rain gear is important. You may see quick afternoon showers, but there is also a chance of heavier rainstorms that last for a few hours.

For this time of year, I always recommend packing ponchos, a compact umbrella, waterproof sandals, and a park bag that can handle rain. It’s also a good idea to have a backup pair of shoes or extra socks in your room in case your shoes get wet.

Packing for September Weather in Florida

Even though September is hot, indoor restaurants, buses, and attractions can sometimes feel chilly after you’ve been outside in the heat or rain. Most people won’t need a sweatshirt, but you may want to pack one very lightweight layer if you tend to get cold indoors.

For September, I would focus on packing:

The weather can be hot and unpredictable, but with the right packing list, you can still have a wonderful trip! For even more ideas, check out my full list of Hot Weather Essentials for Disney World.

What’s Happening at Disney World in September

There are several fun things happening at Disney World in September, especially if you love fall events but still want to enjoy warm weather, pool time, and summer-style outfits.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party continues at Magic Kingdom during September on select nights. This is a separately ticketed event, which means you’ll need a special event ticket in addition to your regular park plans.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party includes trick-or-treating, Halloween entertainment, festive overlays, special character moments, and a fun atmosphere for families. Since September is still very hot, you’ll want to choose Halloween outfits or costumes carefully.

If you plan to attend the party, pack something lightweight and breathable. A Halloween-themed t-shirt, festive Minnie ears, character-inspired outfit, or simple costume pieces can be a great choice. Heavy costumes may feel uncomfortable in the September heat and humidity.

September can also be a nice time to visit because many kids have gone back to school. After Labor Day weekend, crowds can sometimes start to feel a little lighter, especially during the middle weeks of the month. If you’re able to travel during those weeks, September can be a great time to plan a Walt Disney World vacation.

At the beginning of the month, Disney Resort Collection hotel guests can still use the complimentary water park admission benefit on their check-in day for arrivals through September 8, 2026. You can find more details about this and other seasonal offerings in my 2026 Summer Fun at Disney World guide.

If you’re planning to take advantage of the water park benefit, make sure you pack your swimsuits, waterproof sandals, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a change of clothes in an easy-to-access bag.

September Specific Packing Essentials

September packing is all about staying cool, staying dry, and being ready for changing weather. The weather is still very hot and humid, so you’ll want to choose breathable pieces that are easy to move around in.

Plan to pack outfits for temperatures in the 90s. Athletic gear is one of the best choices for September because it dries quickly, feels lightweight, and helps keep you more comfortable during long park days.

Avoid heavy denim, thick fabrics, and anything that will feel uncomfortable once you start sweating. Instead, choose athletic shorts, tennis dresses, skorts, breathable t-shirts, tank tops, and lightweight sundresses.

You’ll also want to bring a few pairs of comfortable shoes to rotate during your trip. With the heat, rain, and amount of walking you’ll do, it’s nice to have a backup pair in case one gets wet or starts to rub.

For your park bag, bring items that will help you handle both the heat and the rain. A cooling towel, handheld fan, sunscreen, poncho, and refillable water bottle are must-haves for September. My Hot Weather Essentials for Disney World article has even more ideas for staying cool during warm park days.

You may also want to pack a small towel or extra shirt if you have little kids, especially if you plan to use splash pads, resort pools, or water play areas during the day.

More September Outfit Ideas

If you’re going to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, pack a lightweight Halloween-inspired outfit. You can still dress for the season without wearing anything too heavy. Think Halloween shirts, themed ears, orange or black athletic dresses, character-inspired outfits, or simple breathable costumes.

Outfit Ideas for September at Disney

September at Disney World is the perfect time to keep your outfits simple, lightweight, and practical. You can still look cute in photos, but comfort should be your top priority.

For park days, I love the idea of wearing athletic dresses, tennis dresses, skorts, biker shorts with oversized tees, or breathable matching sets. These types of outfits are easy to wear in the heat and still look put together in photos.

If you prefer dresses, choose lightweight fabrics and wear bike shorts underneath. This makes it easier to walk, ride attractions, and stay comfortable throughout the day. My guide to the Best Summer Dresses for Disney World is a great place to start if you want easy dress ideas for warm park days.

For shoes, bring your most comfortable walking shoes and a pair of waterproof sandals. September rain showers can leave the parks wet, and it’s helpful to have shoes that dry quickly.

For accessories, pack sunglasses, a hat, comfortable Minnie ears, and a small crossbody bag or belt bag. You don’t want to carry anything too heavy in September, especially when it’s hot and humid.

If you’re attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, choose a lightweight Halloween outfit instead of a heavy costume. A themed t-shirt with a skirt, a breathable character-inspired dress, or a Halloween-colored athletic outfit can be a great option.

Planning Your September Trip to Disney World

September can be a very hot month to visit Walt Disney World, but it can also be a great time for fall events, pool breaks, water park fun, and potentially lighter crowds after the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Because the heat is still strong, I recommend planning breaks during the hottest part of the day. You may want to visit the parks in the morning, return to your resort for lunch and pool time, and then head back out in the evening.

Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, reapply sunscreen often, and take advantage of indoor shows, longer attractions, and air-conditioned restaurants when you need a break. For more warm-weather park bag ideas, check out my Hot Weather Essentials for Disney World.

You’ll also want to keep an eye on the weather forecast before and during your trip. September can bring heavier rainstorms, so having flexible plans and good rain gear can help your vacation go more smoothly.

If you’re staying at a Disney Resort Collection hotel at the beginning of the month, don’t forget to look into the complimentary water park admission benefit on your check-in day. This can be a fun way to start your vacation and cool off before your park days begin. My 2026 Summer Fun at Disney World article has more information on what to expect during the summer season.

And if you’re visiting during September, consider adding Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party to your plans. It’s such a fun way to experience Magic Kingdom with special entertainment, Halloween treats, and festive character moments.

Cheers to making magical memories with your family at Disney World in September!
