What to Wear to Disney World in September
September is a fun time to visit Walt Disney World. Many children are back in school, so if you’re able to travel during this month it can be a lower crowd time of year to visit! The weather will still be hot, but starting to cool a bit from the hottest months of the year in June, July, and August.

Crowd levels are typically lower after the Labor Day holiday and throughout the month of September, as many school aged children are back in school at that time. So if you have the flexibility to travel in mid to late September, this can be a great time to visit Walt Disney World with lower crowd levels.

You’ll still want to pack and plan for hot temperatures, as it can still be quite hot and humid during this time of year, but it should be more pleasant than the middle of summer.
Below you’ll find all of our favorite parts about visiting Walt Disney World in September!

You’ll want to wear light weight and breathable clothing at this time of year, since the temperatures can still get quite hot during the day.
What to Pack for a September Disney Trip
For a September trip to Disney World, it’s important to pack for warm and humid weather. Don’t forget to pack comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.
Given the potential for afternoon showers, it’s a good idea to bring a compact umbrella or a poncho. Additionally, consider bringing a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated, as well as a small backpack or bag to carry your essentials while exploring the parks.
You’ll want to keep an eye on the weather ahead of your trip as well, as September is going into peak hurricane season for Florida, and this could affect your trip if they expect any inclement weather during your travel dates.
September is also the start of Halloween season at Disney World, so you may want to pack some seasonal outfits to bring to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or to get some fun fall themed pictures in the parks!
Traveling in September Packing Tips
- Rain is common this time of year, so make sure to pack a jacket or poncho.
- Plan to spend time at the pool, as temperatures will still be quite warm.
- Be weather aware and make sure to keep an eye on the forecast for when you’ll be there, as September is the peak of a typical Florida hurricane season.
Planning is always a great way to make sure you have the information and items you need ahead of traveling.
September Disney Outfit Inspo
In September, you’ll still want clothing that is comfortable to wear in the heat and light weight. I love creating different character inspired looks by wearing a light sundress and ears. You can still have fun with your outfits and wear character inspired gear in warmer weather, you’ll just want to make sure you stick to lightweight items.

I wear yoga bottom sandals typically year round in Florida, as they are the most comfortable footwear I’ve found in the heat that can also take the walking. No matter what shoe you select, make sure you can walk a lot of steps in them!
We also spent plenty of time at the pool when we visit Walt Disney World in the summer! Multiple swimsuits and coverups were a must!

Special Events in September
There are a number of special events happening at Walt Disney World in September.
At EPCOT, the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, will still be going on for the whole month of September. This special event is all about trying out new foods and beverages, so plan some time to spend walking around the World Showcase!
At Magic Kingdom, Halloween season is in full swing and there are special ticketed nights of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party. This party happens after the park is closed for the day for regular ticket guests, and features special characters, treats, and merchandise you can only get at the party!

Our family also really loves the Boo to You Halloween parade and Halloween fireworks, only available during the MNSSHP party.
September Disney World Packing List
It will still feel like summer temperatures in Florida during September, so plan ahead for hot weather! You’ll want to pack sunscreen and lightweight clothing to wear to the parks. We also like to bring personal fans, cooling towels, and hats for trips during the hottest months.
Disney World’s September Weather
In September, the weather at Walt Disney World is typically still quite warm, with average high temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit (around 31-34°C). The humidity remains high, and there are still chances of afternoon thunderstorms, so it’s good to be prepared for rain showers.
Florida’s hurricane season runs from June through November, with the peak typically happening in September. It’s a good idea to check the local weather forecast for the most accurate and up-to-date information before your visit.
Although Orlando is quite inland, there are occasional instances where hurricanes can affect Disney hours and operations.

Visiting in September can be a great time to go to Walt Disney World, you just need to make sure to arrive prepared for the weather and know about the possibility of inclement weather as well.
Why Disney World in September?
Many school age children are back in school after Labor Day in September, and therefore those families are not able to travel during that time.
After you get past the Labor Day holiday, crowd levels should be lower in September with the exception of visiting EPCOT during Food & Wine season on the weekend. The Food & Wine Festival tends to draw a lot of local visitors on the weekends, so plan your EPCOT day during the middle of the week if possible.
It’s still a great time to plan time at the pool or go to the water parks. Making this an all around great time to visit if your family’s schedule allows for it!

We still recommend the mid-day break type of touring in September, as that can make a huge difference in the hottest times of the year.

Essential Items for September at Disney
Items to be prepared for the heat are a must when visiting in September:
Most souvenir shops will have sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, fans, and cooling towels, if you’ve forgotten any of these at home!
What to put in your Disney Park Bag
When you go into the parks, you’ll want to bring items that you think will be useful and that you might need throughout the day. These are our suggested items to pack for a day at the theme park.

Spray Mister Fan / First Aid Kit / Cooling Towels / Hip Bag / Backpack
Other Park Bag Essentials
You’ll find these essentials handy to have in your Disney park bag as well:
- Portable charger: With all the photo-taking, ride-waiting, and app-checking you’ll be doing, your phone’s battery will likely drain quickly. Bring a portable charger to keep your devices charged throughout the day.
- Rain poncho or jacket: Those Florida pop up showers happen frequently, so it’s a good idea to pack a rain poncho or light packable jacket.
- Autograph book: If you’re a fan of the characters, bring an autograph book for the characters to sign.
- Snacks and water bottle: Disney World allows outside food and drinks, so bring some snacks and a refillable water bottle to save money and stay hydrated throughout the day.
- Backpack or bag: You’ll need a bag to carry all your essentials, such as sunscreen, sunglasses, and souvenirs. Bring a comfortable backpack or bag that won’t weigh you down during the day.

September Disney Touring Tips
Make the most of your September trip to Walt Disney World with these touring tips!
- Take an afternoon break to recharge at the resort and spend some time at the pool.
- Plan in a water park day to maximize your water fun!
- Pick out your top things to see that day every morning, so your family has a plan of the “must do” items at each theme park or location. Pick your top 3 rides everyone would like to do, 2 experiences, and the top place you’d like to grab food!
What else should you bring to Disney World?
During the hottest months of the year we almost always know that we will be headed back to the resort room in the middle of the day – but I pack my bag as if we are going to be gone all day. Just in case.
Snacks help keep everyone fed in case of being stuck in a line and it is a good idea to bring your own water bottles to have water handy. I like to keep multiple phone chargers in my park bag, because I know I will be taking lots of photos.

Travel Documents
You’ll want to make sure to remember these items during your trip to Disney World:
- Valid government-issued ID: This can be a driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued ID. You will need this to enter the park and to purchase alcohol if you are of legal drinking age.
- Disney World tickets: Make sure to bring your tickets with you to the park. You can either print them out or have them on your phone through the My Disney Experience app.
- MagicBands: If you have a MagicBand, make sure to bring it with you to the park. This will serve as your park ticket, hotel room key, and can be used to make purchases throughout the park.
- Reservation confirmations: If you have made any dining reservations or Genie+ selections, these confirmations will be on your phone.
Health and Safety Items
There are First Aid Stations available in all of the theme parks that you can get wellness supplies, as well as use for a quiet place for mothers with little ones. These items below I like to keep on hand, just in case!
- Hand sanitizer: Always good to have at meals or after going through a ride line, keep this handy to make sure little ones don’t pick up germs.
- Sunscreen: That Florida sun is hot! Re-apply sunscreen throughout the day to make sure you don’t get a sunburn. (And I like to travel with a Sun Bum After Sun spray, just in case!)
- First-aid kit: I like having items on hand like bandaids, ointment, and bug spray sticks to make sure we can take care of any minor bumps or bites that may happen during our travels.
- Reusable water bottle: You can fill this up throughout the parks to stay hydrated.
Food and Snacks
If your family wants to have breakfast in the resort room, consider having an Amazon Fresh order dropped off at bell services. You can keep items like GoGo Squeez, yogurt, cereal, and more on hand to have in the room for quick snacks.
Plan snack breaks into your day, and while there are plenty of kiosks and options throughout the parks, it is always a good idea to have some snacks on hand in your park bag. Especially for little ones that may have a set diet or food preferences.
One option in addition to asking for cups of water at quick service restaurants is to bring a reusable water bottle. Ask for your free glass of water and then keep your water bottle replenished as you tour the parks.
