Disney World Value Resort Overview

Here are some of the highlights of staying at any Disney World value resort. Click here to jump down to our rankings for families for each of the value resorts.

There are five resorts that are within the value classification at Walt Disney World – All-Star Movies, All-Star Sports, All-Star Music, Art of Animation, and Pop Century. Their average price per night is somewhere in the $129 to $400 range for standard rooms, and All-Star Music and Art of Animation also have a higher priced family suite option ( $325 to $800+) that can accommodate more people within the room.

The value resorts are Disney’s most economical option on property and prices may vary due to capacity, time of year, and what events are going on during your travel dates.

Disney’s All-Star Resorts have three distinct themes, but are all connected to each other and share a bus route. Each of the resorts has their own food court and pool area. Although the theming makes each one distinct, the layout of the resorts make these three sorts feel similar to each other.

Pop Century and Art of Animation are adjacent to each other, with a bridge that connects the two resorts to the Disney Skyliner line. This unique attribute may make these resorts more appealing to guests that would like easy access via the air to either EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Value resorts have an exterior room door entrance and are grouped together in different sections that are home to individual buildings. At any of these resorts you’ll enjoy complimentary Disney experiences like resort activities, pool games, and Disney transportation to the theme parks.

The value resorts at Walt Disney World offer a lot of amenities for the price, but if you’re thinking a different category may be for you, check out one of these guides below:

We have stayed at every category of resort at Walt Disney World with our family of four, and these are our opinions of which resorts work best for families!

Why Families Should Stay at Disney Value Resorts

Get all the details about what families will enjoy staying at Walt Disney World value resorts! Let’s rank all of the Disney value resorts from favorite to least favorite when staying at Walt Disney World with your family.

Keep in mind that standard value rooms typically will only hold 4 guests (plus one child under age three in a crib), so if you’re looking at accommodating 5 guests or more over the age of three – the only room that will work in the value category will be family suites at All Star Music or Art of Animation.

These family suites at All Star Music and Art of Animation can accommodate 6 guests (plus one child under age three in a crib) and also have two bathrooms. Making this a great option for larger families. The other option for larger families visiting Disney would be to reserve two adjoining rooms and split your party between the two rooms.

Reasons Why Disney Value Resorts Work Great for Families

If you’re just ready to hear what makes each resort stand out, jump down to our rankings below. Still not sure if a Disney value resort is for you? Here are reasons below why a Disney value resort may work well for you.

1.Staying in the Disney Bubble

Staying in the “Disney bubble” is one of those things that is best understood after you’ve had the experience, but if you’re a first timer planning your visit to Walt Disney World – you should know this is one of the highlights of staying at a Disney resort during our Disney vacations.

From the minute your plane lands and you arrive at the gates to Walt Disney World, it is almost a sigh of relief knowing you’re “in the bubble” and everything will feel uniquely Disney during your stay.

Disney is known for their world class customer service, and that helps transform trips where you are on Disney property the entire time. It is noticeable to us that the benefits of being able to stay on property and not have to “venture into” the real world, where you again are dealing with traffic, mapping systems, and sometimes less than Disney expectations for customer service.

The perks of having an exceptional Disney experience from start to finish on our vacations is always worth staying at a Disney resort.

2. Use of Disney Transportation

Using Disney transportation is a perk of staying at any Disney resort, but it should be noted that with the addition of Disney Skyliner that connects to both Art of Animation and Pop Century, that transportation options have expanded beyond just having bus transportation that is standard at all Disney resorts.

Not having to worry about driving around is one of the perks we love about staying “in the Disney bubble” and is definitely something we take into consideration when we are planning our stays.

3. Fun Themes are Great for Kids

Fun themes throughout the value resorts are really their biggest selling point, for our family in particular.

All of the value resorts have large character and theme items scattered throughout the resort, and each section of the resort is uniquely themed! Our kids loved the different areas you could take pictures at the value resorts and they are a great option for first time visitors with kids.

4. Most Economical Option (During Most Seasons)

This point varies depending on the time you’re looking to book, I have seen some occasions where the value resorts have started to fill up and you’re able to snag a Moderate standard room for around the same price as a value resort room.

However on the whole, value resorts are going to be your most economical hotel option at Walt Disney World. This provides savings for families traveling to Walt Disney World and allows you to not break the budget so you have ample funds leftover for food and souvenirs.

5. Amenities are all kid friendly

We love a great theme and the fact that the value resorts have the “large than life” themes throughout the resort not only makes it one of the selling points of staying at a value resort, but it also means that all of the amenities at the resort are very kid friendly and geared towards families staying there.

From the Big Blue Pool at Art of Animation to the World Premiere Food Court at All-Star Movies, all of the amenities feel particularly geared towards families with kids!

Ranking of Disney Value Resort Hotels for Families

  1. Art of Animation
  2. Pop Century Resort
  3. All-Star Music Resort
  4. All-Star Movies Resort
  5. All-Star Sports Resort

Art of Animation

Ranked 1st for: Great theme, unique rooms, outstanding Disney experience.

Sleeps: Family Suites up to 6 Adults; Standard Rooms up to 4 Adults (plus infant in crib allowed)

Art of Animation is one of our favorite resorts overall, and that is why it takes the top spot in our Disney value resorts ranking!

The fun themes include characters that all kids will recognize, from the Little Mermaid standard rooms to the Cars and Lion King themed family suites. We loved the additional activities at this resort that centered around animation, and the Big Blue Pool was a highlight for us during our stay.

The Big Blue pool is the single largest pool at Walt Disney World Resort! There are also 2 additional pools in the Little Mermaid and Cars sections of the resort, for when you may not want to walk all the way to the main area to swim.

The Landscape of Flavors food court was also a hit and we loved the layout of the main building area. Rooms at this resort will be on the higher side cost wise, so for the most budget conscious families this resort may not be the best fit in that case.

Overall, our stay at Art of Animation remains one of our favorite stays at a Disney resort because of experience, theme, and amenities – so that is why it takes the top spot in our rankings of Disney value resorts!

Pop Century Resort

Ranked 2nd for: Easy access to Skyliner, fun layout, unique theme.

Sleeps: Up to 4 Adults (plus infant in crib allowed)

Although Pop Century often ranks fairly high on many rankings, for families… it gets the second place ranked value resort spot from us. The theme is fun, but not all families are going to connect with the decade by decade theme at this resort. Also the rooms at this resort are a bit on the small side.

However, even with those minor drawbacks, it still remains a solid options for families to consider for an economical stay at Walt Disney World.

There are Disney characters throughout the resort decor, with lots of great decor elements for young kids to take in. It’s worth taking some time to walk throughout the resort to see all of the large decor elements.

Inside the rooms, they have a similar look and feel to the renovated All Star value resorts, with a bed and pull down Murphy bed combination. Some families will like this configuration to maximize the space and others, especially if you have older children, may feel a bit cramped.

This renovated style while feels a bit more modern than the previous styling of the standard value resorts (still currently found at All-Star Sports), but feels a bit generic, and dealing with pulling the Murphy bed down may not be the best fit for all families.

Staying in this style room, our family with older children starts to feel a bit cramped and typically opt to go into a moderate resort for a bit more space in the resort room. However if you’re looking for a value resort and room size isn’t a concern, Pop Century has a good combination of both fun theme and great location, making it come in second place just behind Art of Animation.

The Disney Skyliner access that Pop Century Resort has definitely sets it apart from the All-Star Resorts that rely solely on buses so if you’re planning on spending a good amount of time at either EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this should be factored into your resort decision.

Oftentimes for just slightly more cost than what rooms at Pop Century can be booked (and at times, I’ve even seen it flip flopped where Pop Century was more expensive than a bargain room price at Port Orleans-French Quarter!) , you can grab a Disney Moderate level resort room, with slightly more space and a few more amenities – so make sure to compare prices for the time of year that you’re planning on visiting.

However if you’re looking to definitely stay at a Value, but price isn’t your top concern – Pop Century is a solid option that comes in typically the middle of the range for the value resort pricing.

All-Star Music

Ranked 3rd for: Family Suites option, fun theme, reasonable price.

Sleeps: Family Suites up to 6 Adults; Standard Rooms up to 4 Adults (plus infant in crib allowed)

All-Star Music has a fun theme, but what really sets this resort apart from the other All-Star resorts is the fact that it has family suites. Making it a more versatile resort for families than most of the other value resort options.

It also is typically lower priced than either standard rooms or family suites at Art of Animation, so for families that are traveling with a lot of people or need a combination of room styles, All-Star Music would be a great option in that situation.

Standard rooms at this resort are the renovated style with the pull down Murphy bed that doubles as a table. While the finishes of the room are upgraded from the previous style, dealing with the pull down bed may not be worth the savings for some families.

We also really love the Calypso pool at All-Star Music, the Three Caballeros foundation in the middle is super fun, and we enjoyed our time swimming here. It’s a guitar shaped pool that feels very on theme. There is also a second pool at All-Star Music called the Piano Pool, aptly named it has piano keys running the length of the pool and is shaped like a keyboard.

All-Star Movies

Ranked 4th for: Fun theme, but only have smaller size standard rooms.

Sleeps: Up to 4 Adults (plus infant in crib allowed)

All-Star Movies also has great theming throughout the resort. The characters around this resort include a Toy Story and 101 Dalmatians themed area, which our kids loved when we stayed at this resort. It worked well with younger children and had all of the needed space for a family of four.

The Fantasia pool is a fun pool with a Sorcerer Mickey fountain and large movie screen area. It also has a smaller kiddie pool, which makes it a great option for families with younger children. There’s also the Duck Pond Pool in the Mighty Ducks section, where you can go for a dip in a less busy area.

Rooms at this resort are the renovated style with the pull down Murphy bed combination, which as you can see pops up quite a few times at the value resorts. Due to the space constraints and no suites being available at this All-Star Resort, it would likely be the best choice for budget conscious families that are smaller in size.

The one negative to note for this resort, is that it tends to be the last stop for buses when they are at the All-Star Resorts complex, so you may often be greeted by fuller buses by the time they make it to your resort.

All-Star Sports

Ranked 5th for: Least unique theme and most out of date rooms. Typically lowest price value.

Sleeps: Up to 4 Adults (plus infant in crib allowed)

All-Star Sports is typically the lowest cost value however is also going to be similarly priced to All-Star Movies and All-Star Music standard rooms. The one (and only in our opinion) pro to staying at this resort would be that it is the first stop on the bus route to the All-Star resorts.

So that means you’ll be the first to get on the bus headed to the theme parks, and the first one off the bus at the end of the night. We do appreciate that with tired kids.

This resort also often hosts athletic teams when there are competitions onsite, so it may not be the most family friendly resort at certain times of the year. (In respect to having only families at the pool, longer potential lines in the food court, and non-typical family hours being held in rooms around you.

All-Star Sports may work well for short stays if you’re headed out on a cruise and just need economical accommodations before being picked up by Disney Cruise Line.

It also may be a good fit if you are on an extremely budget conscious trip and it has the lowest booking price out of all of the value resorts at the time you’re looking to book. This is never the first resort we would look at booking on an upcoming stay to specifically visit Walt Disney World on a leisurely family trip. However if you are a sports oriented family, perhaps it would bump it up the list if you’re looking for a value oriented resort!
