What to Pack for a May Disney Trip
The weather is heating up typically during the month of May in Florida, so prepare for hot temperatures and the occasional shower. The rainiest season of the year starts in May, with it peaking out in the summer, however pop up showers happen on this peninsula all year round so it is always good to arrive prepared for rain!
The weather will be quite warm during the month of May in Florida, so plan for warm temperatures and a slight chance of rain. No matter the time of year, it is always a great idea to pack a poncho or packable jacket, just in case of a pop up shower during your trip.

May should see lower crowds at the theme parks, since many schools will be finishing up their school year and most do not have breaks at this time of year.
You’ll see an uptick of visitors on the weekends and especially the last weekend of the month could be crowded with the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival ending and the Memorial Day weekend holiday.
Visiting in May Packing Tips
- Be prepared for rain with a packable jacket or poncho.
- Pools and water parks will be open! Don’t forget your swimsuit!

May Disney World Packing List
Temperatures in May will start to become quite hot, so dress for comfort and sunny days! We make sure to pack sunscreen no matter what time of year it is, and if you’re sensitive to the sun you may even want to include a hat.
This list includes items to beat the heat in case the temperatures will be hotter when you are there. Towards the end of the month you may start to see humidity and temperatures increase even more.
Disney World’s May Weather
In May, the weather at Walt Disney World is typically warm and increasingly humid, with average high temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit (around 31-34°C).
Theme park visitors can expect warm and sunny days with occasional afternoon thunderstorms, so it’s a good idea to be prepared for brief rain showers. The parks are lush and vibrant during this time, and it’s a great opportunity to enjoy water rides and indoor attractions to stay cool.
Humidity will not be at its highest point, compared to visiting in July or August, and you should have the best of both worlds of being able to do outdoor activities like swimming and splash pad, while not having the hottest temperatures of the year quite yet.
Overall, the warm temperatures of May at Walt Disney World make it a great choice for a spring vacation destination.
Why Disney World in May?
Spring is a beuatiful time to visit Walt Disney World and if you’re looking for a time with lower crowds and very tolerable weather, May makes an excellent match for both.
Visit on a non-holiday weekend to make sure that crowds will be at their lowest points. Check out our Best Time to Visit Walt Disney World post to check out our recommended weeks to visit in May.
EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival
Still going on through May 27, 2024 will be the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival. This festival is a popular destination for Disney enthusiasts and features topiaries and floral displays throughout the EPCOT theme park.
There are also numerous special cuisine stands and entertainment options during the festival. I especially love the Violet Lemonade from Pineapple Promenade. Take some time to try them out and find your own favorites!
The EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival is fun for the whole family, with activities for a wide range of ages and runs through May 27, 2024.
Essential Clothing Items for May at Disney
Here are some essential clothing to bring with you on your spring Disney trip:
- Comfortable Shoes: You don’t want to find out your shoes aren’t comfortable on the day you arrive at Disney! Bring shoes that are already broken in and can walk lots of miles!
- Rain Gear: The rainy season is beginning in May and you’re likely to have at least one shower during your trip. Pack a poncho or light weight packable jacket to put in your park bag.
- Hats and Sunglasses: Pack all of your sun preparedness items like sunglasses and sunscreen to make sure you’re ready to be outside all day.
You’ll be ready for the best day ever when you arrive prepared!

You’ll also want to think about what items you’ll want to pack in your theme park bag. These are the items you’ll use throughout the day at the theme park.

Other Park Bag Essentials
You’ll find these essentials handy to have in your Disney park bag all year long:
- Portable charger: With all the photo-taking, ride-waiting, and app-checking you’ll be doing, your phone’s battery will likely drain quickly. Bring a portable charger to keep your devices charged throughout the day.
- Rain poncho or jacket: Those Florida pop up showers happen frequently, so it’s a good idea to pack a rain poncho or light packable jacket.
- Autograph book: If you’re a fan of the characters, bring an autograph book for the characters to sign.
- Snacks and water bottle: Disney World allows outside food and drinks, so bring some snacks and a refillable water bottle to save money and stay hydrated throughout the day.
- Backpack or bag: You’ll need a bag to carry all your essentials, such as sunscreen, sunglasses, and souvenirs. Bring a comfortable backpack or bag that won’t weigh you down during the day.

May Disney Touring Tips
May is a wonderful time to visit Disney! There will be lots of flowers and topiaries, plus warm pleasant weather and tolerable crowd levels.
- Take some time to stop and see the different topiaries at the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival.
- There’s lots to see and do, so plan in a mid-day break to head back to the resort for some pool time and relaxation.
- Pick out your top things to see that day every morning, so your family has a plan of the “must do” items at each theme park or location.
You can really maximize your Disney experience by going in the month of May. The weather is pleasant and the crowds are manageable. Plan in lots of snack and pool breaks, and you have the recipe for a perfect Disney day!
What else should you bring to Disney World?
There are a few more things to think of while you’re packing. Consider any special needs your family may have and whether you plan to return to your resort room in the middle of the day.
I like to keep multiple phone chargers in my park bag, because I know I will be taking lots of photos, and I also will need extra camera batteries.
Travel Documents
You’ll want to make sure to remember these items during your trip to Disney World:
- Valid government-issued ID: This can be a driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued ID. You will need this to enter the park and to purchase alcohol if you are of legal drinking age.
- Disney World tickets: Make sure to bring your tickets with you to the park. You can either print them out or have them on your phone through the My Disney Experience app.
- MagicBands: If you have a MagicBand, make sure to bring it with you to the park. This will serve as your park ticket, hotel room key, and can be used to make purchases throughout the park.
- Reservation confirmations: If you have made any dining reservations or Genie+ selections, these confirmations will be on your phone.
Health and Safety Items
There are First Aid Stations available in all of the theme parks that you can get wellness supplies, as well as use for a quiet place for mothers with little ones. These items below I like to keep on hand, just in case!
- Hand sanitizer: Always good to have at meals or after going through a ride line, keep this handy to make sure little ones don’t pick up germs.
- Sunscreen: That Florida sun is hot! Re-apply sunscreen throughout the day to make sure you don’t get a sunburn. (And I like to travel with a Sun Bum After Sun spray, just in case!)
- First-aid kit: I like having items on hand like bandaids, ointment, and bug spray sticks to make sure we can take care of any minor bumps or bites that may happen during our travels.
- Reusable water bottle: You can fill this up throughout the parks to stay hydrated.
Food and Snacks
If your family wants to have breakfast in the resort room, consider having an Amazon Fresh order dropped off at bell services. You can keep items like GoGo Squeez, yogurt, cereal, and more on hand to have in the room for quick snacks.
Plan snack breaks into your day, and while there are plenty of kiosks and options throughout the parks, it is always a good idea to have some snacks on hand in your park bag. Especially for little ones that may have a set diet or food preferences.
One option in addition to asking for cups of water at quick service restaurants is to bring a reusable water bottle. Ask for your free glass of water and then keep your water bottle replenished as you tour the parks.
Walt Disney World in May
May is a great time to visit Walt Disney World and you’re sure to have a ton of fun visiting at this time of year. If you have the flexibility to visit during the middle of the week during a non-holiday week, you should be greeted with lower crowds and more opportunity to see and do things while in the theme parks.
This is a time of year that we always consider if our schedules allow a visit during the month of May!
